Golf Course Architect Todd Quitno says the whole process from
Master Plan to execution was truly a team effort with Ryan, Nick,
Landscapes Unlimited and Rocky (shaper). “We continually bounced
ideas off one another and adjusted as we went along, and I think the
finished product is much better for it!”
Here are Quitno’s thoughts on the refreshed Hole 13:
From tee to green, Hole 13 did not change in its
routing, but three primary elements have been
added to the hole:
• From the tee, in the first landing area we have
consolidated the two bunkers on the right into
one, providing a little bit more room in front
of the bunker to land short. Then we added a
second bunker on the left at the long end of
the landing area. This really serves as a great
aiming point from the tee and challenges
the longer player. The left bunker shares a
mounded landform with the new left bunker
on Hole 15, and marks where the fairways now
connect.
• A large cottonwood tree has been removed on
the left side to reveal a view of the Capitol from
the tee.
• At the second landing area, or layup area, a
new  bunker has been cut in on the right to add
a bit more decision to the layup. Challenging
the  bunker leaves a better angle into the new
green expansion.
Biggest changes are expansion of the green to
the back left and a new roll-off behind and below
the green. This brings the green closer to the
water, making it relate better. The pond was also
expanded between Holes 13 and 14 and comes
into play a bit more on the back left. A bunker
was added on the left to transition from water to
green and guard the new pin areas.
The right bunker was rebuilt and pulled more
around to the right side; where we cut off some
of the existing green, we also removed the
back right bunker to be replaced with short
grass. These were decisions made during
construction and do not show up on the original
plan pictured here.
